About us:
Kia ora, Hi, I’m Joanna, a creative who loves nature, animals & the creator of ‘Sugoi Publishing
‘Sugoi means “awesome” and “fun” in Japanese.
Sugoi Publishing is an independent publisher of elegant, quirky, heart warming gift-books for children & families.
My main field of work is Education, as an English language tutor, Visual Arts tutor and sales consultant.
Living and Teaching English to children in Japan for 2 years was a highlight.
I have also worked for Peter Lik Galleries & sold fine-art Photography in the Noosa Gallery on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
All poetic story books, are created with love & heart, & have a Japanese aesthetic style coupled with the kawaii (cute) factor. Quirky hand-drawn illustrations with black ink, coupled with patterned papers, photography & collage overlays create unique imagery. The books all began organically.
I find beauty in nature inspiring & nourishing & enjoy the process of creative projects.
The books are for readers to help celebrate a newborn, acknowledge loss & grief in a heartfelt way & for those who seek something a little unique. It is hoped the characters are like friends. Thank you for viewing these NZ made books.
Have a lovely day, Joanna
